Beams, haze, floor pools and chases cued by the beat. Stage Lights visualises the room instead of the signal, and it is the only engine in the catalog built around a lighting desk rather than a graph.
Every other engine in the catalog visualises the signal. A bar is a band. A ring is a frame of spectrum. A landscape is a few seconds of history. Stage Lights visualises the room: a lighting rig rather than a readout: beams, haze, pools and chases cued by the beat.
Fixtures have positions on a truss. Beams have a source and a throw. Haze is the thing that makes a beam visible at all. It is the look a live clip has, and none of the other engines produce it.

This is the reason Stage Lights is the most beat-native engine in the catalog. A real lighting operator does not slowly ride a fader to follow the mix; they strike a fixture on a beat and let it decay on its own envelope. The engine works the same way.
Every mode drives its fixtures from per-element envelopes triggered by the beat, and the beat count advances which group fires next. That is what produces a chase: light travelling across the truss, rather than every lamp blinking in unison. Turn the chase groups down to one and you get exactly that unison blink, which is a useful thing to hear once so you know what the control is buying you.
An engine whose whole subject is flashing lights had to decide this before it drew anything. There is no full-frame flash in any mode, Strobe Bars included. Beams, pools and bars are bounded shapes over a dark stage, and the brightest term any of them reaches is an alpha on a shape, never a fill of the entire canvas.
The trigger rate is capped too. Fixture envelopes are gated by the beat latch, whose lockout window caps firing at five times a second however the track is analysed. A double-time hi-hat pattern cannot turn the rig into a 20 Hz strobe.
It is still a lighting rig
Bounded and rate-limited is not the same as safe for everyone. If you are publishing to an audience, say so in your description, and read Keyboard and Accessibility on Novus for what the motion setting does and does not change about an export.
Colour matters more than usual on this engine, because a lighting rig is mostly colour. The engine's own defaults lean warm against magenta, and the shared Colour mode (duo, gradient or full spectrum) decides whether your fixtures are two colours in alternation or a whole wash across the truss. The Stage Lights engine reference lists every control that is in scope, and its setup effort is rated easy: it looks right almost immediately, which is not true of every engine in the catalog.
Anything that wants to feel like a room with people in it. Live-set uploads, DJ mixes, club and festival edits, hard dance, and any release whose artwork already has a stage on it. Par Wall and Spot Rig behind a logo produce a convincing tour visual; Follow Spot works surprisingly well for a single vocal track, because the moving pool gives the frame somewhere to look.
It is the wrong engine when the viewer is meant to read the music rather than feel the venue. For a literal readout, use Spectrum or Bars; for structure that switches on the beat without the theatre, Lattice is the geometric cousin of the same idea.
Open it in the editor, start on Beam Fan, and do only one thing first: push Haze up. Almost every complaint about this engine looking cheap is a rig with no air in it.
