Multi-layer Stacking

3 min readEditor Features

The Novus editor supports up to 4 simultaneous visualizer layers — a background engine plus three overlay layers. Each layer runs its own engine independently.

Adding Layers

In the Template Builder panel, scroll to the 'Layers' section. Click 'Add Layer' to add an overlay engine. Each new layer gets its own engine selector, mode control, and opacity slider.

The base (bottom) layer is always the primary background. Additional layers composite on top using standard blend modes.

Tips

  • A common composition: 3D tunnel or terrain as base + 2D spectrum as a soft overlay at 40% opacity.

Per-layer Controls

Each additional layer shows its own engine-specific controls (colour, mode, speed, etc.). Beat Reactivity controls are global — they appear only in the base layer settings and affect all layers.

Use the eye icon to toggle individual layers on/off for quick A/B comparisons.

Performance Notes

Each additional 3D layer adds a full WebGL render pass. If preview feels sluggish with 3 layers, switch one or more to a 2D engine — they're much lighter and still look great as overlays.

Tips

  • For export quality always matches preview quality — there's no hidden render upscale on export.
