Uploading Audio Files

2 min readGetting Started

Novus supports the most common audio formats. This guide explains how to upload your track, what limits apply, and how to use a sample audio file while you're experimenting.

Supported Audio Formats

Novus accepts MP3, WAV, OGG, and FLAC files. MP3 is the most widely used format and works perfectly for all visualizer engines. WAV and FLAC preserve more audio fidelity, which can help the frequency analysis pick up subtler details.

Files up to 100 MB are accepted. For most tracks this is equivalent to around 90–100 minutes at 128 kbps MP3 quality, which is more than enough for a typical visualizer export.

Tips

  • Normalise your audio to around -1 dBFS before uploading so the visualizer uses the full dynamic range.
  • 44.1 kHz stereo is the recommended sample rate for the best frequency analysis results.

Drag-and-Drop Upload

In the Settings panel, scroll to the 'Audio' section. Drag your file from your desktop or file manager and drop it onto the upload zone — you'll see it highlighted in purple when a valid file is being dragged over.

Alternatively, click the upload zone to open a standard file picker. Select your audio file and click Open.

File Size and Duration Limits

Individual file uploads are capped at 100 MB. If your file exceeds this limit, consider re-exporting it at a lower bitrate (192 kbps is transparent quality for most music) before uploading.

There is no hard duration limit on playback within the editor, but very long tracks (over 30 minutes) may slow down the export process. For long recordings, consider using the Trim Range controls in the Timeline to select just the portion you want to export.

Using Sample Audio

Each visualizer template comes with a built-in sample audio track that plays automatically in preview cards on the Templates page. In the editor you can keep the sample audio or replace it with your own file at any time.

Sample audio files are copyright-free tracks from SoundHelix and are provided solely for previewing. They will not be included in any exported video unless you explicitly use them.

Tips

  • Use sample audio to test different visualizer engines before committing to your own track.
